Obituary of Hedy Lepp

HEDY (Peters) LEPP Lepp, Hedy (Peters) - On September 2, 2015, Hedy (Hedwig) Lepp (nee Peters) passed away at 87 years of age. Until last week, she was living in the Orchardview Apartments in Vineland, where she enjoyed the company of many friends and the caring attention of staff. Hedy was predeceased (September 2013) by her loving husband, Jack. (Jacob Henry Lepp) Hedy was born on August 15, 1928 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. She was the third and youngest child of Abram and Elizabeth Peters. She enjoyed childhood years with her brother, Hermann, and sister, Louise. She often told stories of many cousins and wider family gatherings. With her family, she was very involved in the early years of the First Mennonite Church in Winnipeg. Her youth there included choirs and socials. She met Jack, a University Of Manitoba Engineering student, in one of those choirs. They were married on October 1, 1949. In 1950, they moved to their farm near Rivers, Manitoba and began their family there. David, Chris and Randy were born in Rivers. In 1958 this small family moved to Ontario where Jack had secured a position with International Harvester of Hamilton. The family expanded with the birth of Virginia and Richard at their home in the town of Grimsby. Hedy was kept busy as a mother and “homemaker” during the 1960s. When her five children were set in their directions she decided to further her own education. In 1970 she entered college for nursing. In October 1971 Hedy graduated as a Registered Nursing Assistant. She worked part-time, for over a decade, at the West Lincoln Memorial Hospital in Grimsby ON. In retirement, Jack and Hedy spent over 20 winters in Florida. They also participated in several “vacation with a purpose” projects and other voluntary assignments, like helping at Silver Lake Mennonite Camp. In recent years they moved to Vineland to be nearer to church and friends. Hedy joyfully spent copious amounts of time talking. She loved varied topics; politics, religion, news items but her favourite was family. She deeply enjoyed photos and stories of children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Although her voice is now silent, her wisdom will stay with many. She leaves behind her five children - David (Anita) of Niagara-on-the-Lake, Chris (Dodie) of Beamsville, Randy (Frieda) of Leamington, Virginia of Toronto and Richard of Oshawa, as well as 11 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren The family of Hedy wants to express thanks for love and care given by the Orchardview Apartments staff and the caring medical teams that served her well at the Greater Niagara General Hospital. Hedy is in the care of the Tallman Funeral Home. Visitations will be held Thursday September 3, 2015 – 2-4 pm and 7-8:30 pm. Burial will be a private family event. A service of worship will be held on Friday, September 4 at 11 am at the Vineland United Mennonite Church.
